Health and Safety Policy
Statement
1.1 Overall statement of general policy
1.1.1 Logical Transport Ltd aims
? to provide adequate control of the health and
safety risks arising from our work activities;
? to consult with our employees on matters
affecting their health and safety;
? to provide and maintain safe equipment;
? to ensure safe handling practices where
required;
? to provide information, instruction and
supervision for employees;
? to ensure all employees are competent to do
their tasks, and to give them adequate training;
? to prevent accidents and cases of work-related
ill health;
? to maintain safe and healthy working
conditions; and
? to review and revise this policy as necessary
at regular intervals.
1.2 Responsibilities.
1.2.1 Overall and final responsibility for
health and safety is that of the Directors
1.2.2 Day to day responsibility for ensuring
this policy is put into practice is delegated to
the Health and Safety Officer, David Redding..
1.2.3 All employees have to:
? co-operate with supervisors and managers on
health and safety matters;
? not interfere with anything provided to
safeguard their health and safety;
? take reasonable care of their own health and
safety; and
? report all health and safety concerns to an
appropriate person (as detailed in this policy
statement).
1.3 Health and safety risks arising from our
work activities.
1.3.1 Risk assessments will be undertaken by
line managers..
1.3.2 The findings of the risk assessments will
be reported to the Health & Safety Officer.
1.3.3 Action taken to remove/control risks will
be approved by the Directors.
1.3.4 Line managers will be responsible for
ensuring action required is implemented.
1.3.5 The health and Safety Officer will check
that the implemented actions have taken place.
1.3.6 Assessments will be reviewed every 6
months or when work activity changes, whichever
is soonest.
1.4 Consultation with employees.
1.4.1 Logical Transport Ltd has elected to offer
all employees input in relation to all health
and safety issues affecting them, and any
changes that the company make which may affect
health and safety. This is in line with HSCER
1996 guidelines.
1.4.2 Consultation with employees is provided on
two levels:
? By encouraging staff to communicate issues to
the Health and Safety Officer in confidence
? Through the process of departmental meetings,
where time is made to discuss any health and
safety issue openly.
1.5 Safe Equipment.
1.5.1 Line managers are be responsible for
identifying all equipment requiring
maintenance...
1.5.2 The Technical Dept. will be responsible
for ensuring effective maintenance procedures
are drawn up.
1.5.3 Line managers will be responsible for
ensuring that all identified maintenance is
carried out.
1.5.4 Any problems found with equipment should
be reported to a line manager.
1.5.5 The relevant department (IT, Purchasing
etc.) will check that all new equipment meets
health and safety standards before it is
purchased).
1.6 COSH.
1.6.1 There is currently no work related
activity affected by C.O.S.H. legislation.
1.6.2 Should this change, the regulations and
risk assessment will be administered by the
Health and Safety Officer.
1.6.3 All employees are responsible for making
the company aware of any activity involving the
use of hazardous substances.
1.7 Information, instruction and supervision.
1.7.1 The health and safety at work poster is on
display in the kitchen at Kingston Crescent,
Portsmouth and at the entrance to the office at
Alexandra House, Southampton...
1.7.2 Health and safety advice is available from
any line manager or the Health and Safety
Officer.
1.7.3 Supervision of young workers/trainees will
be arranged/undertaken by line managers.
1.7.4 The Health and Safety Manager and any
employer to whom Logical Transport are retained
by are responsible for ensuring that our
employees working at locations under the control
of other employers, are given relevant health
and safety information.
1.8 Competency for tasks and training.
1.8.1 Health and safety induction training will
be provided for all employees as a part of the
usual induction programme, supervised by the
relevant line manager...
1.8.2 Job specific training will be provided by
line managers and the Health and Safety Officer.
1.8.3 There are currently no jobs requiring
specific training
1.8.4 Training records are kept with personnel
records by Human Resources.
1.8.5 Training will be identified, arranged and
monitored by line managers and the Health and
Safety Officer.
1.9 Accidents, first-aid and work related ill
health.
1.9.1 There are currently no jobs that require
health surveillanceee
1.9.2 It is the duty of the line managers to
identify any jobs requiring health surveillance
1.9.3 Health surveillance records will be kept
at Alexandra House, Southampton, with personnel
records.
1.9.4 First aid boxes are kept in the kitchen
and reception at Kingston Crescent, Portsmouth
and in the kitchen at Alexandra House,
Southampton.
1.9.5 The appointed persons/first aiders are
clearly identified on the Health and Safety
posters at each location. If in doubt contact
the Health and Safety Officer for guidance.
1.9.6 All accidents and cases of work-related
ill health are to be recorded in the accident
book. The book is kept at reception at both
Kingston Crescent, Portsmouth and Alexandra
House, Southampton
1.9.7 The Health and Safety Officer Is
responsible for reporting accidents, diseases
and dangerous occurrences to the enforcing
authority
1.10 Monitoring.
1.10.1 To check our working conditions, and
ensure our safe working practices are being
followed, we willll
? Encourage employees to communicate with the
Health and Safety Officer, in confidence if
required
? Hold regular meetings to discuss health and
safety matters. This will be organised by the
Health and Safety Officer at intervals of 3
months.
? Encourage all employees to operate in a safe
manner, report any issues and reinforce the
confidentiality of reporting processes.
? Hold spot checks on all premises at regular
intervals. This will be carried out by both line
management, the Health and Safety Officer and
the Directors.
1.10.2 Line managers are responsible for
investigating accidents within their teams.
1.10.3 The Personnel Officer Is responsible for
investigating work-related causes of sickness
absences.
1.10.4 The Directors are responsible for acting
on investigation findings to prevent a
recurrence.
1.11 Emergency procedures ? fire and
evacuation.
1.11.1 The Health and Safety Officer is
responsible for ensuring the fire risk
assessment is undertaken and implemented
1.11.2 Escape routes are checked by all staff on
a daily basis, as laid out in the company
handbook.k.
1.11.3 Fire extinguishers are maintained and
checked by ,every
1.11.4 Alarms are tested by the landlords at
both Kingston Crescent, Portsmouth and Alexandra
House, Southampton, every month
1.11.5 Emergency evacuation will be tested every
6 months.
